Austria by Parachute

This morning’s early start is bittersweet. On one hand I am leaving bellissimo Italia, but on the other hand this afternoon will bring the second major adventure day of the trip, Paragliding in Austria! We drive for what feels like an eternity, but once we hit Tyrol-Austria it’s GO GO GO. There is a small group of us who desperately wanted to fit in both Paragliding and Canyoning, so we get dropped first at a car park where we get straight into a black SUV bound for the paragliding base. From there we squeeze 8 people and 4 parachutes into a 7 seater and drive up the mountain road. We’re already running late because of the traffic, and these guys drive this road every day, so we go pretty fast. Lets just say it’s a good thing the van is packed so full that we can’t move very far. Queenstown MTB Trail

And so the adventure begins… I’ve arrived in Queenstown where the weather is a cool 3 ° C, and that’s at midday. Yes it's winter in Queenstown, NZ and most people have headed up to the local ski slopes today, but not me. Today I’m mountain biking. My normal ride at home is a Specialized Epic Comp 2018, a light but durable dual suspension mountain bike tuned for racing, however as I don’t own another dualie I treat it as an all-mountain machine as well, and it's never let me down. Unfortunately I couldn’t bring my bike on this trip, so after a bit of research I’ve discovered I can hire a range of Specialized bikes from the good people at Outside Sports , conveniently located on Shotover St in the heart of Queenstown. Fish In The Sea

There's plenty of fish in the sea, allegedly, but this week I'm going to find out for sure as I leave Sydney's winter to find summer in the tropical Solomon Islands. For once my travels haven't started with an early morning, but instead a lazy afternoon flight from Sydney to Brisbane before flying Brisbane -> Honiara, Honiara -> Munda -> Gizo tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited for such a relaxing holiday. Anyone who has travelled with me knows that this is very unlike me, usually preferring the fast-paced adventure-packed style of travel, but this time, after a particularly busy period of work and life, I'm in need of something a bit slower. Enter Solomon Islands. Although this trip is predominantly a scuba diving trip with a bunch of my diving friends from Prodive, it's definitely not fast-paced as no one moves fast in the Solomon Islands.
